| Bio: | ![]() Name: Tabitha Jones Age: 38 D.O.B.: February 27, 1971 Blood Type: A- Race: Were, grizzly bear (bitten) Level: NA Powers: Shapeshifting into a bear or bear-woman hybrid form, forced shifting at the full moon into a mindless hybrid form. Enhanced senses, particularly smell. Physical Description: Tall and stately, Tabitha Jones is dark-skinned and exotic in her facial structure, with a long face and angled eyes over the trademark African nose and mouth, the latter usually held in a no-nonsense line of seriousness, though she has a nice smile when she cares to bestow it. She is a couple inches over six feet, very tall for a woman, and well-muscled on her long limbs and broad shoulders. Her hair is long and only a shade darker than her skin, sometimes worn long and straight, sometimes in hundreds of tiny braids, sometimes teased out into a cloud around her face. She loves trying new things with it, but she refuses dredlocks, since if she changed her mind it would require cutting it all off; her hair is her pride and joy in her appearance. Her clothing, when not in uniform, is comfortable and often flamboyant, to the surprise of people who know her in uniform and know how serious she can be. She runs the gambit from smart suits to fitted dresses to exotic clothes in traditional African style, generally in bright colors Personality: Tabitha-- she generally goes by Tabby-- is rough but friendly, with a deep voice, a generous laugh that can startle people, and a deafening bellow: the more excited or angry she gets, the louder her volume tends to get. The most important things to her are trust and trustworthiness, and honor, and honesty runs closely behind. She's actually uncomfortable having to hide who and what she is from people she cares about, and even before the Light of May, everyone that mattered already knew. She can be very no-nonsense about many things and definitely has a growing "mother-bear" syndrome, an over-protectiveness of people in her life or innocents that is starting to bother her. Though Tabby is stubborn and quite capable of coming to blows over an argument, she also never really holds a grudge and is quite likely to buy her assailant or victim a drink when it's all over, unlikely to remain angry for long. Serious betrayals of trust, however, she has a much harder time forgiving, if she can at all. To her mind, her own values of honor apply to everyone, not just herself, and forgiveness must be earned in the same way she expects to atone when she has done wrong. She is dependable and straight-forward, sometimes blunt to a fault. When people around her are upset, she's never quite sure what to do about it; she would love to be able to say or do the right thing for someone, but she's usually so worried about doing the wrong thing that she winds up doing nothing at all. Tabby can be a bit old-fashioned, particularly when it comes to chivalry, and especially towards other women. To the amusement or disgruntlement of many, she insists on holding doors, paying for things, and calling people sir, ma'am, or miss. Sexuality: Homosexual, though she's tried men now and then, too. History: Growing up in California, Tabby didn't have many problems accepting who and what she was: a tall, homosexual African-American. A black amazon warrior-woman, as she and her friends joked. Her parents didn't approve, though, being of a much more conservative generation, and she left home early on for college in the farthest place she could think of: Michigan. She entered the police academy straight from college, not wanting to go overseas with the military but wanting something that could make use of her size, strength, and sense of honor. Only four years ago, Tabby transferred from Detroit to Ann Arbor, a smaller city that needed police. Here, she faced real prejudice for the first time, both for her color and, when it got out not long after her arrival, her sexuality. After a few shows of temper and a few write-ups, she finally learned to ignore it all and just focus on being a good cop. Now it's mostly turned into a joke along the same lines as her high school friends, now that she's proved herself a good and professional addition to the force, except for a few hard-core bigots who she just ignores. Just in time for that prejudice to ease off, though, everything changed again. Tabby and her partner were called to a disturbance in the packlands in late March and, in the attempt to break up a dominance battle between two weres, one shifted and bit her as she tried to protect her partner. As if that wasn't enough of an eye-opener for someone previously unaware of the supernatural, the next full moon in April was even more so, as she shifted, herself, for the first time. Luckily, the chagrined were was there to stop her from causing harm to anyone else, and ever since she's locked herself up at night, but still. It's been hard to adjust to. Since the Light of May: Nothing's really changed, for Tabby. Her revelation about the supernatural came a few months before May, her superiors and her partner already knew what she was so she didn't have to lie to them about where she went on full moon nights, and she has long since stopped speaking to her family, so there was nothing really to change. She took the Light of May in stride, and is reluctantly supportive of other supernaturals, though she's a bit prickly about her own status. After years of slurs about her sexuality and even her race, you'd have thought she'd be used to it, but with the new slurs and prejudices cropping up now, she's finding it harder and harder to resist the urge to smash some heads together-- and eventually she's going to give in. Special Skills/Abilities: Tabby is good with a gun and baton and can effectively use a number of other weapons that really get you funny looks in today's world. So, though she likes them and has a fun collection of them at home, she doesn't generally use them. She's pretty resourceful when it comes to defending herself and others. Perhaps surprisingly, she's pretty good at styling hair, too. Personal Weaknesses: Animal Instincts: Tabby is fairly recently turned, and while she's adapted to her new senses-- sort of, anyway-- the new instincts cropping up are really kind of bothering her. Being so over-protective, her temper flaring more and more readily, her intense need to know the hierarchy in a social situation or enforce her own dominance-- they're all new and she resists them to the best of her ability. Insomniac: For whatever reason, Tabby has always trouble sleeping, even when she's exhausted. It's like her mind doesn't want to turn off. It's only gotten worse since she was bitten, because now every little sound or scent catches her attention. Once she's asleep, she's solidly asleep and it takes a lot to wake her up, but it takes her hours to get there and she's often tired. Functional Alcoholic: What once had been a social passtime is slowly becoming a coping method. When Tabby is falling-down drunk, her senses are muted and she has no problems falling asleep. Thus, she is getting more and more dependent on alcohol just to sleep. She won't admit she has a problem, and though it hasn't affected her work or relationships yet, it probably will, soon. Temper: It doesn't take much to get Tabby riled up, anymore. It also doesn't take much to cool her down, either, but sometimes a bellow and a swat has lasting consequences for others that don't occur to her, once her temper's cooled again. Hibernation: Though she doesn't know it yet, being turned only in March, when winter comes Tabby will want to hibernate-- or at least sleep a lot. She'll eat a lot in late fall, and then her energy will just start to run out. Mama-bear: Another aspect of the bear that is driving Tabby crazy is the instinct to take care of people-- anyone she cares about, or anyone who manages to tug her heartstrings, particularly children. She is so far sublimating it into being extra vigilant and protective, but the maternal urges to cook for-- or, more appropriately, hunt for-- and scold and try to run their lives are there. Personal Strengths: Size and Strength: Tabby is big and Tabby is strong-- even stronger than she looks. She can subdue people even larger than her, generally, and she's pretty imposing when she's not smiling. High Pain Tolerance: After several years of training and working for police, Tabby has gotten used to pain. It doesn't bother her much anymore, unless it's from something that actually impedes her functionality. Reading People: After over ten years in the force, in both Detroit and Ann Arbor, Tabby has a lot of experience reading people. Plus, she's got a good detective instinct. Now that she's a were, she's coupled both those with her sharp senses to get very good at reading people's moods, intentions, and motivations. Family: Tabby isn't on speaking terms with most of her family. She has a sister she talks to sometimes, but she lives in California, so she isn't around much. Living Conditions: Tabby has a two-bedroom house in the middle-class section of Scarlet Oak. Career/Job: Police Played By: Erykah Badu | ||||||||||
